17. MAY
The Norwegian Association in Athens arranges Constitution Day Celebration for the whole family on the Sunday closest to the exact date every year. We will often be lucky enought to have church services in Norwegian by a visiting cleric from the Norwegian Church Abroad.
In any case this is a fiest focusing on the younger participants with a parade, games, hot dogs and ice-cream just like home in Norway. Only the brass-band is a little bit short on members... (one saxophone and one flute as we write). If you play any instrument, you're hereby invited to join!

TODDLER/PRE-SCHOOL ACTIVITES
We arrange nursery- and preschool according to the "At home with..." method. That means we will meet at home at eachother with our toddlers and babies according to the program and schedule we have decided at the beginning of the season. Due to long distances there are two groups, one north and one south in Athens.

CHRISTMAS MARKET
The Norwegians have their own stand at the yearly Christmas Market in the Scandinavian Church. The arrangement goes over a week-end and is usually arranged around the 20th of November. Members of the Norwegian Association have the total responsibility for the stand from planning the purchases, the handicrafts and till the last sale. All profit goes to the church. In addition to the Scandinavian Christmas decorations that can be bought at the market, it is a good opportunity to stock up with Scandinavian food. Best of all however, is participating at the stands and being a part of the greatest event of the fall season!

CHRISTMAS PARTY (JULEBORD)
Or maybe more correctly: The Pre-Christmas party, is not quite the same as the Greek New Year Party, but like the "Kopi tis Pitas", there will be one for work, one for most every Association and Social Club. In Norway there may be quite a few of them in the beginning of December, while in Athens, to the best of our knowledge, there is only one. The evening will start out with traditional Christmas dinner, usually pork rib with sweet-and-sour cabbage (surkal) and always a little aquavit to go with it. Speaches, songs and entertainment follow and after the coffee avec there is opportunity for dancing the calories away until the late night hours.

CARNEVAL
This is not a particularly Norwegian activity, on the contrary one might say, but we have however participated in the yearly Moschato Carneval every year since 1999. We have even one a prize twice for our contribution. Themes we have chosen to present vary from Norwegian Fisheries to Nobel Peace Prize holders. We're now getting ready for the 2004 and eligible members are invited to join!

PIZZA
Again, not particularly Norwegian (unless you consider the fact that it is the most popular TV-Dinner in Norway through all times...), but we for years now, Norwegians meet regularly at
Willy's pizza in Kallithea (Dimosthenous 54 og Agion Panton. Tel. 210 95 87 891/210 9596388), run by Willy and Halldis.

SOCIETY/CULTURE
From time to time wi arrange excursion and lectures about subjects of interest to the Norwegian Community. We have been to the Norwegian excavations in Tegea, and at the time of the war in Yugoslavia we were able to get a lecture on the subject by professionals. We have discussed bi-cultural marriage, and even recently had a lecture by a Greek Medician who have become famous in Norway for his views on modern diet. Any new idea is always welcome.
